DORCHESTER TOWN 0

DORCHESTER Town fell to a second Pitching In Southern League Premier South loss in 48 hours as Poole Town claimed a 1-0 win at the Black Gold Stadium.

Agonisingly for the Magpies, it was the second game in succession a former Dorchester player grabbed the winner as Sean Wright headed home in the 43rd minute.

The result leaves Dorchester with four losses in five games.

However, the general consensus is that Dorchester have not been overly troubled this season and their improved passing game has not reaped the rewards it deserved.

Dorchester boss Robbie Herrera made just one change to the team that began the 1-0 loss to Salisbury on Saturday.

Experienced former Premier League midfielder Tom Soares made his first league start, replacing the benched Harry Burns.

Making another energetic start – a feature of their play this season – Dorchester were again on the front foot at Poole, who were beaten 1-0 by the Magpies in their last visit to the Dolphins in January 2019.

Robbie Herrera’s men won six corners in the opening half as their positive play created chances against a Poole side fresh from a 4-0 win over Harrow on Saturday.

But there was little in the way of clear-cut opportunities for the visitors, with Christos Papakonstantinou going closest to breaking the deadlock.

That was until Dorchester switched off at the other end, allowing Wright to head home at close range from a ball back across goal to give his side a 1-0 half-time lead.

Another former Magpie, Tony Lee, wasted a good chance for 2-0 when he skewed his effort off-target from a through ball after the break.

Dorchester retreated away from their possession game as the half progressed but Tom Purrington had their best opening, failing to trouble Poole keeper Mark Childs from inside the box.

Herrera brought on Charlie Madden and Burns for Oakley Hanger and Billy Lowes late on but Dorchester could not find an equaliser and now sit 20th of the 22 teams.

The Magpies entertain Yate Town in FA Cup first qualifying round action on Saturday (3pm).
