DORCHESTER TOWN U23 1

Gosney 83

WEYMOUTH U23 2

Own goal 6, Walbridge 11

WEYMOUTH Under-23s claimed victory in the Ridgeway derby with a 2-1 success at rivals Dorchester Town.

Charlie Gosney nearly got the Magpies off to the perfect start in the first minute, zipping a cross through the box just beyond a teammate.

Weymouth, who were watched on the touchline by first-team boss Brian Stock, responded with two goals in five minutes to take control of the Hampshire Combination and Development League West contest.

Former Dorchester midfielder Dan Neild's wicked free-kick curled into an awkward position in the box and the Magpies were forced to concede a headed own goal.

Still recovering from the setback, Dorchester were caught hesitating in defence in the 11th minute, allowing striker Troy Walbridge to steal in and slot past home keeper Bradley Smith.

Ben Hughes went close for the Magpies before half-time but the hosts had to wait until the 83rd minute to halve the deficit when Gosney finished off a pinpoint delivery from Ben Symes.

Gosney's goal set up a frantic finale but the Magpies could not find an equaliser as the Terras claimed local bragging rights.

The loss was Dorchester's first of the season, while Weymouth have won both games played so far.

Dorchester will have a chance for revenge in the return fixture on Wednesday, December 8.
