SWANAGE TOWN & HERSTON 1

BALTI Sports returned to winning ways with a solid 3-1 win over Swanage Town & Herston at Weymouth College.

Balti have struggled with injuries and unavailability during this Jewson Dorset Premier League season.

But in beating the Swans, Balti now have a second victory in six games and got their triumph started with a goal from outstanding right-back Che Curran.

The full-back has been in tremendous form this season, despite missing much of the 2020/21 campaign, and headed back across goal from Jamie Rawlings’ cross to make it 1-0.

Matt Chambers, Lloyd Beals and Danny Andrews all had chances to extend Balti’s lead before Charlie Brassington equalised for the Swans with a 20-yard shot one minute before the half-time interval.

With Balti’s confidence fragile following four losses from five games, the Weymouth-based side overcame any such gremlins to seal victory with two near-identical goals.

Scott Walker’s long throw-in was flicked on and bounced up with sub Liam Taylor wheeling away to claim the goal despite suspicions the last touch came off a defender.

Balti repeated the trick for 3-1 when Taylor, this time without doubt, emphatically headed home from a Walker throw to wrap up the three points.

Speaking to Echosport, Balti boss Marco Nott was relieved by his team’s return to form.

He said: “I’m really happy, it was so important to get that win.

“The lads did well, it was a pretty dominant performance, especially with the ball.

“We looked a lot better and it was a lot more like our old selves. We missed a couple of chances to make it more and they scored bang on half-time which could’ve been a big blow to us.

“We carried on and got that second and third goal quite quickly, we saw the game out pretty comfortably after that.

“It was a relief getting the three points, definitely.”

On Curran’s display, Nott added: “He was outstanding, our man of the match. He’s been so good this season, I’m really impressed with him.

“He didn’t really play much last year, so he’s come back firing.

“He’s one of the best right-backs in the league, in my opinion, and he’s on good form.”

Balti next face a challenging trip to Westland Sports on Saturday (3pm).
