DORCHESTER Town crashed out of the Southern League Challenge Cup first round to lower-league opposition as Lymington Town claimed a shock 4-1 win.

The Linnets trailed 1-0 at the break thanks to Sam Bayston’s goal but stunned the Magpies with four unanswered goals in the second half to seal a memorable victory.

Lymington were promoted to the Southern League Division One South for the 2021/22 season as part of the FA’s reshuffle of the non-League pyramid.

They faced a Magpies side freshened up by eight changes from the unit that began Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Gosport, including three under-23 players and another four on the bench.

Harry Hodges, Thiago Caze da Silva, Callum Buckley, Tiago Sa, Tom Purrington, Flavio Tavares, Kieran Phillips and Rudy Plummer all had the night off.

Midfielders Brin Doyle and Ben Symes, striker Ruben Smith and defender Adam Heaton were Dorchester's youthful options from the dugout.

Dorchester seemed unaffected by the list of alterations and enjoyed the better of the first half, midfielder Harry Burns going closest.

That was until the Magpies went 1-0 up on the cusp of half-time, courtesy of Bayston, who swept home a cross from out wide.

But Lymington turned the game on its head with two goals in five minutes at the beginning of the second half.

Two substitutes did the trick as Freddie Bullard, only on the pitch for 90 seconds, tucked home past Alan Walker-Harris before fellow sub Toby Bailey drilled home from the edge of the box.

Dorchester struggled to create chances despite hoisting a number of crosses into the box.

Magpies’ manager Robbie Herrera handed first-team experience to Doyle and Symes, plus a debut for Smith, as Dorchester looked to youth to flip the game around.

However, a stonewall penalty was given in the 90th minute and Sam House slotted home for 3-1 to effectively kill the game.

Lymington rubbed salt in the wounds late on as former Weymouth youngster Harry McGrath notched in the 94th minute to complete the ‘cupset’.

Dorchester return to league action at home to Southern League Premier South leaders Hayes & Yeading on Saturday (3pm).
