DORCHESTER Town have a “great opportunity” to claim back-to-back league wins, according to interim boss Brian Churchill.

Churchill and fellow caretaker manager Craig Robinson guided the Magpies to a superb 3-2 success at Tiverton on Wednesday, Alfie Stanley bagging a sublime hat-trick.

And Dorchester, in 19th, now travel to 18th-placed Chesham United tomorrow (3pm) looking to take consecutive Pitching In Southern League Premier South wins for the first time since March 2019.

On those occasions, Dorchester earned 3-2 and 4-1 victories over Walton Casuals and Basingstoke respectively.

On the two-point gap between the sides, Churchill told Echosport: “Looking at the table there’s not a lot between us.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to go up there and try and get some momentum. It’s been a long time since Dorch have won two on the trot.

“That’s the aim, to go up there and get three points.

“There’s a bit of togetherness now and they’ve seen the rewards you can get if you work hard. They’re all putting a shift in and doing as they’ve been asked. We’ve reaped the rewards.”

Churchill is also looking to play on the Magpies’ away form, which has been better than their home record in recent years.

He said: “We had good support (at Tiverton), 50, 60 fans cheering us on, which makes a massive difference to us.

“When we’re doing the right things and you can hear: ‘Come on you Magpies!’ it’s massive for us.

“Any support we get away from home is brilliant and just playing away from the Avenue takes that pressure off us a little. The onus is on the home team.”

Goalkeeper Gerard Benfield (dislocated fingers) is out until November, but skipper Ash Wells (hamstring) could feature. Defender Sam Davidson (ankle) returns to training next week.
