WEYMOUTH boss Brian Stock confessed the Terras’ 1-1 draw at old enemies Yeovil Town “feels like a win”.

On his 22nd birthday, sub Tom Bearwish poked home a Josh Leslie-Smith throw-in from the far side to send Weymouth’s fans into raptures.

His goal cancelled out Charlie Wakefield’s opener, while Calvin Brooks missed a big chance for Weymouth in the first half.

Weymouth dominated the second half but looked to be going out until Dorset lad Bearwish’s late heroics.

The two sides will meet again in the replay on Tuesday to settle the tie, with the first-round draw made tomorrow lunchtime.

For Stock and the Terras, this was a much-needed dose of positivity in the pressure-cooker atmosphere of a bouncing Huish Park.

He told Echosport: “It’s a tough place to come, they’re a good side with good energy. We had to stand up to that.

“In the first half we didn’t manipulate the ball in areas we wanted to. Second half we did and I felt it was a dominant display.

“I’d say a draw was a fair result. They had one or two chances in the first half and I think they’d probably say we had that in the second.

“We went away to Halifax and put in a good display. We know we need to cut out certain mistakes in certain areas.

“I’m pleased we scored because it’s something we’ve not done recently. It feels like a win.”

On Bearwish, Stock added: “I’m delighted for him. It comes to your third sub and you’re looking for a little injection of pace or emphasis to go and win us the game.

“Tom was selected and he’s gone and delivered. He’s a local lad. Sometimes he’s had to wait for his opportunities but I can’t ask for any more. He’s a really important member of the squad.”

Stock unveiled the signings of Martell Taylor-Crossdale and Josef Yarney before kick-off.

The former Wales international had no qualms about thrusting the latter into the starting line-up for his debut.

Stock said: “It was a decision I made purely on the basis of what he’s done outside of the club. He’s been training with Tranmere so I knew he was ready to go.

“He’s a strong lad, a fit lad and you’d think he’s been in the team for weeks. I was really pleased with his performance.”

Reflecting on the dying stages, Stock admitted he thought Weymouth might be heading out of the Cup.

He told BBC Radio Solent: “Yeah I’m not going to lie. There was a point, especially when they had a corner late on and you think they’re going to see the game out.

“Luckily we got ourselves out quickly, got up the pitch and we get a throw deep in their half.

“We’ve tried that a few times with Josh Leslie-Smith’s throwing. It’s not necessarily worked and we’ve actually been countered on a few times.

“We’ve picked and chosen when we’ve done that and fortunately it’s come good when we needed it.”
