DORCHESTER TOWN 3

Caze da Silva 28, Bayston 41, 64

HARTLEY WINTNEY 2

Argent 71, Webb 86

DORCHESTER Town collected their second home league win of the season with a 3-2 success over Hartley Wintney – but not without a late scare.

The managerless Magpies surged into a 3-0 lead midway through the second half as Thiago Caze da Silva headed his first goal for the club, followed by a Sam Bayston double either side of the break.

Hartley Wintney created plenty of chances throughout the game and created a nervy finish when Sam Argent and Josh Webb made it 3-2 with four minutes remaining.

But Dorchester clung on tightly to claim the points, registering their fourth victory of the Pitching In Southern League Premier South campaign and moving into 17th place.

Dorchester interim bosses Brian Churchill and Craig Robinson made one change to the side that began the 5-1 loss at Chesham on Saturday.

Out went Christos Papakonstantinou, with Bayston coming in to replace the Greek maestro.

Magpies' defender Adam Heaton got another taste of the first-team bench, later making his debut, while goalkeeper Bradley Smith was also included.

The pair are Dorchester Under-23s regulars, along with Ben Hughes who was also in the dugout along with club skipper Ash Wells.

Before kick-off, Dorchester had lost five of their six home league games this season.

Needing a good start, the hosts had to call upon keeper Alan Walker-Harris to make a crucial one-on-one save from Kingsley Eshun in the sixth minute.

Webb then rippled the side netting with a cross as the Row flexed their muscles in the opening stages.

Dorchester settled midway through the half and their first meaningful attack saw Bayston poke wide from Alfie Stanley’s delivery.

Bayston’s miss mattered little as Caze da Silva put Dorchester ahead in the 28th minute.

Using a corner routine devised by ex-management staff Robbie Herrera and Kevin Hodges, Dorchester worked the ball to Caze da Silva who powered a header home.

Bayston made it 2-0 at the break with a simple finish past Row keeper Luke Williams following a lovely move on the right.

Hartley went close after the interval when a blizzard of shots were somehow kept out, culminating in Mitchell Parker’s effort being blocked.

Instead it was Dorchester who netted next, Bayston heading home a Flavio Tavares cross for his second goal to become the Magpies’ leading scorer with five goals this term.

At 3-0, Dorchester were in cruise control but they were on the cusp of going into reverse when Argent headed a central finish past Walker-Harris with 19 minutes left.

Webb ensured Magpies nerves were jangling four minutes from time, connecting sweetly with a long-range strike to beat Walker-Harris.

Dorchester’s keeper was on full alert for the remainder, making a pivotal save to deny Argent late on.

Hartley flooded forward in search of a leveller and their final attack saw Reece Robins flash an attempt wide after good work from Ryan Case.

In the end, the Magpies held on for the three points and a result which leaves them one victory away from 13th place in a tight bottom half of the table.
