WEYMOUTH are set for a reunion with former boss Mark Molesley during their Vanarama National League trip to Aldershot Town tonight (7.45pm).

Molesley led the Terras to successive promotions before joining struggling Southend United on a full-time basis in August 2020.

However, the former Bournemouth midfielder lasted just eight months into a three-year deal as the Shrimpers relieved him of his duties.

Southend went on to be relegated into Weymouth and Aldershot’s division for the current season, meaning Molesley will be reunited with both former clubs.

And Molesley’s successor Brian Stock paid tribute to the job done by his predecessor.

He told Echosport: “He’s done a fantastic job here, which I’ve had the pleasure of taking over.

“He’s gone into Aldershot and in terms of what they’re going to (pose) us as a problem, we need to make sure we do our homework and give the lads the best possible opportunity.

“We want to win, there’s not one game I’ve come across in my whole career that I’m going into wanting to get a draw.

“That’s the mentality of the staff and players and it will be no different (tonight).”

The fixture carries huge ramifications in terms of the league table, with Weymouth currently placed 19th and Aldershot 22nd – two points separating the sides.

It begins a crucial duo of matches for the Terras, with a home game against King’s Lynn following on Saturday.

Stock said: “We’ve touched on the fact that we’ve played a lot of games away from home against teams in the top seven.

“These are opportunities to pick up points. We go into two massive games now against Aldershot and King’s Lynn where we need to pick up points, simple as that.”

During Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wealdstone, Weymouth looked lacklustre in the wake of their FA Cup loss to Yeovil.

The Terras were expected to train and recover yesterday before travelling to Hampshire today.

Stock said: “It’s a bonus where we can offer a Monday session to the boys to bring them in. There’s a lot of tired legs, some players have played 210 minutes in the space of four days.

“That’s a hell of a lot, so we’ve asked a lot of some of the players. They can walk out with their heads held high, knowing they’ve given everything for the club.”

Josef Yarney is a major doubt with a grade one calf tear while Sean Shields, Ben Thomson and Tyler Cordner will be assessed for fatigue.

Omar Mussa was substituted during the Yeovil replay and came on in the second half against Wealdstone.

Stock added: “I wanted to go with Ben and Brandon Goodship, go with a more attacking 10.

“I wanted to take the game to Wealdstone and I felt the goal came from that nine, 10 press.

“Omar’s come on and sometimes your heart’s in your mouth when he’s got the ball at his feet.

“He has got the ability to unlock a defence. We’ll get there with him and I’m pleased he’s made an impression.”
