DORCHESTER Town have offered an update on the fitness of three key players.

Club captain Ash Wells suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in midweek and is expected to be out for a further three to five weeks.

Centre-half Sam Davidson and midfielder Tom Soares are also back in training.

However, joint-interim manager Brian Churchill has begun a period of isolation after contracting Covid-19 and is likely to miss Saturday’s FA Trophy game at AFC Totton.

Speaking following the 2-1 loss to Pitching In Southern League Premier South leaders Farnborough, Churchill and fellow interim caretaker boss Craig Robinson issues an encouraging report on the Magpies’ squad.

Churchill told Dorchester’s media team: “Sam would’ve been here (Saturday) but he’s come down with a cold. Hopefully he’ll be in for (tomorrow).

“The one bright spark we have is Tom, he’s come through two good hour-and-a-half sessions with the 23s and then with the first team on Thursday.

“He’s scheduled to come in Tuesday and Thursday and be available for selection next week. That will be a big boost for everyone.”

Robinson said: “There’s definitely competition now across all areas, which is a real positive sign for the club and team. They’re playing for their shirts.”

Churchill also revealed the Magpies’ manager situation continues to be fluid, with no appointment of a permanent boss expected imminently at the time of writing.
