NEW Dorchester Town boss Glenn Howes stated his ambition to help the Magpies “climb the table” during his reign at the Avenue Stadium.

Howes played for Dorchester Town in the 2005/06 season, infamously scoring against rivals Weymouth on New Year’s Day.

He has since turned to management after a bad knee injury halted his playing career.

Enjoying incredible success with Blackfield & Langley, taking the Watersiders to back-to-back promotions, he then steered AFC Totton to the Southern League Division One South summit.

He left the Stags on Monday to become successor to Robbie Herrera at Dorchester and outlined his intentions to lift the Magpies from 19th in the Premier South standings.

Howes told Dorchester’s media team: “First and foremost, let’s just get ourselves enjoying our football.

“I’ve been in the fortunate position where I’ve seen clips and had a look at the players. It gives you that advantage, technology these days.

“I would like to see us climb the table, that’s what we all want here and we’re going to do everything we can.

“But to be going and shooting away and saying we’re going to be doing this, that, it’s not right at the moment.

“We’re just going to focus on getting ourselves nice and organised, then we’ll see where it takes us.”

Asked what style of play Howes will be treating Magpies’ fans to, he replied: “Those who know the teams I’ve managed previously – we’re full of desire, work ethic, extremely organised without the ball.

“In possession we’ll be able to play through them, play round. Fundamentally, we need different styles of football for different games, different opposition, to exploit their frailties.

“It’s going to take a little bit of time to get that into place. I think everybody understands that for me to get my and James’ (Wood, assistant) values across.

“All I’ll say to the supporters is stay patient, get behind us as much as you can, starting Saturday. We’re going to give it everything we’ve got.”
