DELIGHTED Weymouth manager Brian Stock praised his squad after beating Aldershot Town 2-0 away and said: “We imposed our game on them”.

Stock’s men took a ninth-minute lead through Ben Thomson’s second goal in two games and a Kodi Lyons-Foster own goal doubled the Terras’ advantage.

Victory ended a 10-game winless run and chalked up Weymouth’s first clean sheet in 23 competitive games.

Speaking to Echosport, Stock said: “There were some really good individual performances. We had a gameplan, the players stuck to the gameplan and they took it to Aldershot.

“With and without the ball, we imposed our game on them.

“After the first minute when Tom Bearwish goes clean through and misses you’re thinking: ‘Oh please, not another (difficult) night.

“We reacted in a really good manner, the work ethic and drive to close down the opposition was brilliant.

“I saw a real determination amongst everyone. I could go through the whole team, to be honest. It was just, man for man, a really good performance.”

Stock added: “What goes on behind the scenes never changes, the processes never change.

“We’re confident within the group of players that we have that we’re able to beat teams. We don’t fear anyone.

“We give them respect, but we’ve come here full of confidence of beating Aldershot. Sometimes you find yourself in a position where you lose four on the bounce.

“Last year, we would’ve caved in and not got that point against Wealdstone and backed it up with three points (Tuesday).

“I’m really delighted for the boys, they worked hard for it.”

On the blank copybook, Stock said: “Clean sheets don’t come easy with some of the firepower we’re up against that are on mega money.

“You look at the firepower Aldershot had and we kept them quiet. We kept them out of our box, stopped crosses and limited them to very little chances.

“A clean sheet will give Ross Fitzsimons and the back four more confidence. They’ve come under a little criticism because of it.

“When you look back at Ross’s last five games he’s been excellent and not really put a foot wrong.

“He’s a good goalkeeper, he’s just getting that match sharpness and he performed excellently again.”
