DORCHESTER Town chairman Scott Symes has confirmed the Magpies are yet to decide on a length of deal for new boss Glenn Howes.

Howes was appointed successor to Robbie Herrera on Tuesday evening.

The former Dorchester maestro has enjoyed back-to-back promotions with Blackfield & Langley and has taken AFC Totton to the top of Southern League Division One South.

Speaking to Echosport, Symes admitted the Magpies will sit down with Howes later this season to thrash out the finer details.

He said: “We had a meeting (Tuesday) night for about an hour and a half before training just to go through the philosophy of the club, the vision, data analysis et cetera.

“He’s got a busy time coming up and we’ll sit down with him in a sensible timeframe and talk about where we want to be in the future and where we want him to be with us for that.”

Symes also believes the Magpies will kick on under Howes, following the foundations laid by Herrera plus interim managers Brian Churchill and Craig Robinson.

“There are elements of form that’ve been there right from the start of the season,” Symes said.

“It just wasn’t complete. Then, we’ve seen glimpses of that some weeks.

“We have moved in the right direction all season but we didn’t get the wins that were required, didn’t get the points on the board.

“When Robbie went and Brian and Craig came in, they’ve taken certain elements on again which has started to make them a more complete group.

“With Glenn now coming in and his experience, winning mentality, and fresh set of eyes, we feel he’s definitely the right man to put all the pieces of the jigsaw together now.”

Dorchester face Howes' old club AFC Totton in the FA Trophy today (3pm).
