WEYMOUTH defender Calvin Brooks has left the Terras after 312 games, the club has revealed.

Brooks scored 29 goals and produced 30 assists in a stunning career at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The former Yeovil and Dorchester right-back is understood to have decided against continuing at Weymouth due to the travel demands of Vanarama National League football.

Brooks has also struggled for game time this season due to the form of Josh Leslie-Smith at right-back, Brooks starting just seven times in the current campaign.

Salisbury have announced a deal for Brooks, who links up with brother Marvin and former Weymouth player-boss Steve Claridge.

Stock told uptheterras.co.uk: "Calvin will deserve all the plaudits he gets for what has been a fantastic and memorable time with Weymouth Football Club.

"He always gave 110 per cent in his performances and will always be remembered for his contributions both on and off the pitch.

"With the demands of the National League increasing all the time, it’s understandable for Calvin to make this decision to want to leave and a decision we have supported given the respect we have for him.

"I’d like to personally thank Calvin for all his efforts since I became manager. He has led by example, played games for me when not always 100 per cent fit, showed great character within the changing room and when asked to play in numerous positions he did for the benefit of the team.

"He will leave the club having helped create memories that will long live in the memory of all our supporters and a move that not only myself but I’m sure the staff, the players, the supporters and everyone else associated with club wishes him well for. Good luck Calv.”

Weymouth vice-chairman Paul Maitland added: "Calvin can reflect on his time with us with great pride and satisfaction. We wish Calv every success in the future.

"On a personal note, I would like to pay tribute to Calv he has amassed a huge amount of games for the club, with plenty of great memories along the way.

"When Calvin approached us with his decision, he showed great honesty and integrity in doing so which typifies his time here."

Speaking to Echosport, manager Brian Stock said: "He came to me and suggested that he's finding it quite tough with the travelling time away.

"He has his priorities with work and where he hasn't played as much as well.

"We'll miss that experience. Defensively he's strong and he's been a great servant for the club.

"When it comes to the player you have to respect his decision. It's a player we wouldn't be kicking out of the door, by any means.

"When he hasn't played, he's trained hard and worked hard. If something's happened to Josh he's always been on hand to step in.

"Although game time has been limited this year, partly due to injury, it's one of those decision that he's come to me with.

"He's not a bad egg and you don't stay at a club that long if you are."
