TRURO CITY 1

DORCHESTER TOWN 0

JAMIE Richards’ unmarked header from a corner undid Dorchester Town as Truro City claimed a 1-0 win at their temporary Bolitho Park home.

Truro had multiple chances to extend their lead, only for Gerard Benfield to keep the White Tigers at bay.

Dorchester defended stoutly when needed and the Magpies nearly snatched a point from a battling away performance when Charlie Gunson clattered a shot against the post late on.

Glenn Howes’ Magpies were looking for their third victory in four games, Dorchester’s boss making two changes to the line-up that started Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Met Police.

In came Oakley Hanger and Tom Soares, while Thiago Caze da Silva and Alfie Stanley dropped to the bench.

Truro were straight on the offensive as Benfield saved from Andrew Neal before Richards was given too much freedom to head home a corner in the 11th minute.

Benfield denied Neal again and Tyler Harvey headed wide, also firing at Benfield from a free-kick.

Dorchester offered little of note in the first half and the momentum remained with Truro in the second as Harvey headed at Benfield.

Shortly after Stanley replaced Flavio Tavares for Dorchester, the luckless Harvey struck the post after a fabulous piece of control.

Dorchester made a number of blocks in the second half to keep themselves in the game, the latest coming to deny Shane White in the 79th minute.

The Magpies’ defensive diligence was nearly rewarded two minutes later when Gunson clattered a fierce strike against the post.

Dorchester threw men forward in search of a leveller but Truro always looked a threat on the counter-attack.

This was in evidence when the hosts failed to take care of a final ball to Louis Rooney, following excellent work from Neal.

One last throw of the dice by Howes, bringing off Billy Lowes for Christos Papakonstantinou, failed to yield a goal as Dorchester were sent home nursing a second defeat in three days.

Howes’ men remain in 18th but could rise to 15th should they beat Weston-super-Mare on Saturday, accompanied by other results going their way.
