WEYMOUTH interim boss Paul Maitland has revealed the appointment of a new permanent manager is “pretty close”.

Weymouth have been managerless since Brian Stock’s departure on Wednesday.

Maitland, along with captain Josh McQuoid and assistance from goalkeeping coach and former boss Jason Matthews, took charge of the Terras in Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Dartford.

And Weymouth are keen to make a swift call on their next boss in good time for the Vanarama National League clash at Boreham Wood on Saturday.

“Because of my involvement with the team I’ve stepped away from that process a little,” Maitland told Echosport.

“We needed to fully focus on (Saturday’s) game.

“I’ve been told that apparently it’s pretty close. I’d expect to hear a bit more over the next day or two.

“We’ll prepare for training (tomorrow) and Tuesday until we’re told any differently.

“We’re quite comfortable going forward and working like this for as long as we have to.

“I’m not stupid, you always self-evaluate and I know, you know and the club knows that we need to appoint a new manager and get him in the door as quickly as possible to give him the best chance of moving the team up the league.

“Nothing’s changed from me.

“It needs to be the right appointment and made sharply.

“I’ll wait to see how that pans out but if needs be we’ll be ready to go until we’re told anything else.”
