DORCHESTER Town’s 2-0 loss at Beaconsfield Town shows the Magpies are lacking “fortune” and “confidence”, boss Glenn Howes confessed.

Howes’ men were well in the game despite Ryan de Havilland’s opener 10 minutes before half-time.

Dorchester’s Olaf Koszela and Tom Soares went close before half-time but Beaconsfield, who twice hit the woodwork, extended their lead in the second half through Nathan Minhas.

It means the Magpies have lost four Pitching In Southern League Premier South games in a row, but Howes feels one moment of luck could inspire his team to turn results around.

Assessing the game, he told Echosport: “When the first goal went in I felt we were a little deflated.

“Sometimes that happens when you’re lacking a bit of confidence and belief in terms of the form we’re in.

“The first 30 minutes wasn’t great but from there we showed a strong togetherness to put ourselves back in the game.

“Even towards the 94th, 95th minute we’re still trying to push, still full of endeavour.

“We’ve lost a bit of momentum and we need fortune on our side. We created some chances and the keeper’s made a couple of really good saves.

“Sometimes you are missing that Lady Luck.”

He added: “We felt we could get something out of the game but Beaconsfield are on a very good run.

“It’s extremely difficult to win a match at this level, as we’re finding out. We have to train hard (tomorrow) and Thursday.

“They want to put it right, we want to put it right. We’ve got a couple of home games now and we do like playing at the Avenue, that’s for sure.”

Analysing potential turning points, Howes said: “We were still in the game – just before half-time Olaf’s hit the side netting and Soaresy’s flashed a header.

“If those moments go in it just changes the game. Then second half their centre-forward flicks one in, it lands on his big toe and they convert.

“That’s the kind of fortune we’re having at the moment. What pleased me most is that we wanted to put it right.

“We did create chances, so I feel as long as that hunger and desire stays you’ve always got half a chance.

“It’s about us continually trying to improve throughout the season.”
