BUCKHORN Weston have ushered in a new era of cricket club chiefs after the retirement of a long-serving official.

After eight years as chairman and 25 on the committee, Robin Hall took the decision to step down and make way for the next generation during the club's AGM.

Hall has been fundamental to the growth and spirit of the club, having been involved in every aspect of it from playing, ground, fixtures, junior cricket and community events.

Under Hall, the club achieved great success despite recent Covid-19 challenges.

The men’s and junior sections played nearly complete seasons last year and membership of the LBWs, Ladies of Buckhorn Weston, increased significantly with the team going on to win the 2021 Dorset Softball Cricket League just five years after being established – a huge achievement for a team that prides itself on friendly and inclusive values.

Buckhorn Weston also held its first under-nines festival with teams from around the county participating and celebrating their love of the sport.

Simon Dodd takes over as chairman with Nicola Lavis as vice-chairwoman – both highly active members of the community and club.

The committee now comprises an almost 50/50 gender split and exciting plans are in development, including even more of a focus on junior cricket to increase participation across genders plus more events and festivals during the summer months.

Dodd said: "I know Nicola and I are very proud to be stepping into these roles. The club has always been an inclusive and happy place, in large part thanks to the work of Robin, and through these last two difficult years that been more important than ever for people's mental health and that local community support.

"We will ensure that continues, whilst we all enjoy our cricket and see our club go from strength to strength.”
