WEYMOUTH secured a highly impressive 1-1 draw at Boreham Wood - after a concerning injury to Omar Mussa.

The Terras' midfielder went down midway through the second half, causing the game to be suspended and the players to return to the dressing rooms.

However, Mussa later walked away with his arm in a sling, much to everyone's relief.

His injury took the gloss off a prize point for Weymouth, who trailed to Frankie Raymond's opener before Jamie Reckord's own goal levelled matters.

New Weymouth manager David Oldfield named three changes to the starting XI that began the 1-0 FA Trophy loss to Dartford last time out.

His first line-up as boss saw Ben Morgan, Brandon Goodship plus Andy Robinson all make way.

In came centre-back Taofiq Olomowewe plus midfielders Tom Solanke and Mussa - the latter two returning from being cup-tied and nursing an ankle injury respectively.

Goodship and Morgan dropped to the bench, where they were joined by midfielders Xander McBurnie and Tom Blair, while Tom Bearwish provided a utility option from the dugout.

Boreham Wood named new full-back signing Reckord in their starting line-up after his move from Wrexham yesterday.

Weymouth have played Boreham Wood three times since their return to the National League last season, losing on each occasion.

But the Terras showed no signs of a mental block against their opponents with an assured first-half display.

Centre-back Tyler Cordner set the tone with a solid defensive header in the third minute before Wood keeper Taye Ashby-Hammond claimed a searching Sean Shields free-kick.

Trading chances after 15 minutes, Wood’s Tyrone Marsh skied an attempt at goal and Weymouth once more warmed the gloves of Ashby-Hammond with a free-kick, Mussa this time the offender.

Weymouth saw crosses from Shields and Cam Murray dealt with before Solanke joined Marsh in blasting over.

Crosses were the name of the game in this encounter but Cordner was well placed to head away Kane Smith’s delivery before the hosts took the lead.

Their opening goal came courtesy of Raymond who beat Ross Fitzsimons with one of the few shots the Terras’ keeper had to deal with in the first half.

Weymouth responded positively to going behind as Greenidge narrowly failed to connect with a Shields cross and Murray’s deflected shot looped up kindly for Ashby-Hammond.

Fitzsimons got down well to save a powerfully-struck low effort from Marsh, and his efforts were rewarded when the Terras fortuitously equalised just before half-time.

Harfield’s cross forced Ashby-Hammond and Reckord into a muddle, with the latter diverting the delivery past the keeper for an own goal.

Chances were again at a premium in the second half, with Scott Boden heading wide and Weymouth clearing two more corners – one given off the back of Greenidge.

Weymouth enjoyed a good spell midway through the half when skipper Josh McQuoid shot at Ashby-Hammond and Greenidge saw a shot blocked.

But the worrying development involving Mussa forced the players off for a brief stoppage, until thankfully the midfielder got up and walked away assisted by both physios with his arm in a sling.

Play restarted in the 67th minute after Goodship replaced Mussa and Wood again struggled for end product as Marsh blazed over and Raymond shovelled a free-kick behind for a second time.

That was Raymond’s last action as Wood called for Danilo Orsi from the bench before Jacob Mendy wasted another set-play, blasting a free-kick well over.

Oldfield made another change in bringing off McQuoid for Bearwish with eight minutes remaining as the Terras set about preserving the scoreline.

However, Weymouth twice nearly nicked a point in stoppage-time as Bearwish saw a shot magnificently saved by Ashby-Hammond and Goodship saw an effort deflected wide.

But Wood themselves had a glorious chance when Mendy fired over in the 93rd minute after good work from captain David Stephens.

In the end, this was a highly positive point for the Terras against a side who had previously conceded just four home league goals all season.
