WEYMOUTH were pegged back by Yeovil Town for a 1-1 draw in a pulsating Vanarama National League derby at Huish Park.

Sean Shields put Weymouth into a fourth-minute lead, netting Josh McQuoid’s pass from six yards.

Yeovil improved after a poor first half and equalised courtesy of Tyler Cordner’s unfortunate own goal.

Weymouth should have gone 2-1 up, only for Tom Bearwish to miscue a volley and Adi Yussuf saw a weak effort cleared off the line in the 94th minute as it remained 1-1 between the sides for the third time this season.

Before a breathless, end-to-end derby, there was just the one change for Weymouth from their injury-time loss to Aldershot on Saturday as new loan signing Manasse Mampala came in for Jordan Greenidge.

Mampala’s loan deal runs until the end of the season from League Two side Carlisle United and was completed late on transfer deadline day.

One change on the bench for Weymouth came as Greenidge dropped down at the expense of Xander McBurnie.

David Oldfield's other substitute options were Ben Morgan, Brandon Goodship, Tom Blair and Ahkeem Rose.

Over at Yeovil, the Glovers showed two changes from their 1-0 win at Woking on Saturday.

Tom Knowles and Mark Little were suspended after respective yellow and red cards and were replaced by Adi Yussuf and Jack Robinson.

In the two 1-1 FA Cup draws, Yeovil took the lead but Weymouth reversed that trend as early as the fourth minute.

Aaron Drewe’s cross was cleared only as far as Weymouth skipper McQuoid, who picked out Shields’ run towards the back post.

Completely unmarked, Shields had plenty of the goal to aim at and buried his finish from six yards through the grasp of Yeovil keeper Grant Smith, sending the travelling Terras fans into ecstasy.

Yeovil threatened from two Jordan Barnett corners in response but each time Weymouth defended well.

At the other end, Haji Mnoga almost connected with Mampala only for his cross to drift beyond the striker.

Weymouth had made a brilliant start and Shields had an effort blocked inside the area before Aaron Drewe was well tackled to prevent a one-on-one situation on the break.

Yeovil always looked a danger on the counter themselves as Charlie Wakefield forced Ross Fitzsimons into a strong save in the 22nd minute.

Fitzsimons dealt well with Barnett’s two subsequent corners as the Weymouth defence held firm.

Weymouth went close again when the superb Tom Bearwish and Mampala engineered space in a tight area, only for McQuoid to head Shields’ corner wide.

Yeovil gave themselves a big scare when Dale Gorman hit a casual free-kick to McQuoid, forcing Jack Robinson to bring him down and earn the game’s first yellow.

However, Cordner stepped up and curled the free-kick wide from 25 yards.

So poor were Yeovil in the first half that manager Darren Sarll hauled off the anonymous Sonny Blu Lo-Everton for Reuben Reid at the break.

His introduction helped energise a previously slumbering Yeovil and the hosts duly equalised seven minutes into the half with a stroke of luck.

Adi Yussuf’s shot looked to be spearing through the area but Cordner’s outstretched leg inadvertently diverted it into the far corner with Fitzsimons helpless.

Yeovil were firmly on top at this stage but Weymouth released some pressure with a lovely move on the right from which they should have scored.

McQuoid teed up Drewe on the wing and the QPR loanee’s cross met Bearwish perfectly, only for the ex-Eastleigh man to scuff a volley at Smith.

Fitzsimons was booked for time-wasting before McQuoid stung the palms of Smith who leapt to his right to preserve parity.

There was warm home applause for D’Ath on 68 minutes as he finally came back from injury, replacing the booked Worthington.

Terras’ boss David Oldfield opted to bring off McQuoid for Rose with 15 minutes to go, showing no sign of settling for a point.

And Rose nearly made an instant impact, only for Smith to telegraph his low cross.

Weymouth’s hearts fluttered as Morgan Williams’ shot deflected off Harfield straight into Fitzsimons’ gloves.

In the 92nd minute, Mussa earned a second yellow for a cynical foul on sub Alex Bradley, leaving Weymouth with 10 men for the final two minutes of added time.

And the Glovers nearly stole it at the death when Yussuf fluffed his lines three yards out, allowing Drewe to hack clear off the line.

In the end, this will go down as a hugely positive point for Weymouth but the Terras are now winless in 11 league games.
