GILLINGHAM TOWN 0

WEYMOUTH Women continued where they left off with Gillingham Town as they hit double figures against the North Dorset side for the second time in three weeks in a 16-0 procession.

In a game of many notable performances and with eight different players registering their name onto the score sheet, Dani Ackerman’s return of five goals and five assists was the stand-out of the afternoon.

The win saw the Terras move to the top of the Dorset Women’s League on goal difference, a feat previously unachieved by the side since reforming last summer.

It took Weymouth 10 minutes to open the scoring, Ackerman skipped through the Gillingham backline before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting into an empty net.

A minute later and Ackerman had doubled hers and the Terras’ tally, Lily Beasley finding her with a slide rule pass before the former England Under-17 international rolled the ball under the advancing keeper.

Ackerman then turned provider when she beat two defenders before squaring the ball back for Naomi Johnson to rifle into the top-corner.

Beasley bagged her first of the afternoon on 24 minutes when she capitalised on a defensive mix-up and finished a one-on-one.

Two minutes later and Ackerman earned her hat-trick and the Terras' fifth, a superb lofted pass from Jody Sapsford found the run of Ackerman who hammered the ball out of reach of the Gillingham keeper.

Just after the half-hour mark Weymouth were awarded an indirect free-kick for a Gillingham back-pass. From the set-piece Becca De Havilland found Johnson at the back post, who calmly poked the ball into the back of the net.

Beth Barnard-Irons added her name to the list of scorers when she drove a powerful effort into the roof of the net, and less than a minute later Johnson was the second player to secure a hat-trick as she converted an Ackerman cross.

Weymouth made it 9-0 before half-time when Emma Potter made a bursting run from defence and assisted for Ackerman’s fourth of the game.

Beasley scored the Terras 10th, latching onto the end of a Tasha Sibley through-ball, she finished from 12 yards. Moments later Beasley made it a treble of hat-tricks for Weymouth, when she scored again in similar fashion to her last.

Just after an hour had passed, Weymouth captain Charlie Wilson prodded in at the near-post from a corner to stretch the Terras lead to a dozen.

Ackerman finished her scoring on 78 minutes, when Sibley hit the post from the edge of the area she was there again to tap in the rebound.

Weymouth still had time to add three more to the tally as they scored a quickfire three goals in the space of five minutes.

Kayleigh Whiting scored her second of the season, in the 80th minute she pounced onto a loose ball from a corner and looped the ball over the Gillingham defence and goalkeeper.

Former Charlton Athletic midfielder Kristina Manktelow opened her Terras account six minutes from time as she rolled a one-on-one into the far corner.

The rout was complete in the 85th minute when Shakira Howard scored one of her signature chips which defied the Gillingham goalkeeper at full-stretch to finish the game 16-0.

Weymouth next face Redlands Ladies in the Dorset Women’s League, a 1pm kick-off at Weymouth College tomorrow.
