DORCHESTER Town are mulling over whether to appeal Tom Purrington’s red card in the 1-1 Pitching In Southern League Premier South draw with Tiverton Town.

Purrington was shown a straight red for a heavy tackle on Jordan Lam in the 83rd minute and Tivvy went on to equalise five minutes later through Aaron Dawson.

Alfie Stanley had earlier headed Dorchester in front, while the Magpies saw big chances for Olaf Koszela and new signing Yemi Odubade come and go.

Dorchester will review footage of Purrington’s tackle before deciding on an appeal, with assistant James Wood not ruling one out.

“We’ll look at it first,” he told Echosport. “(The referee’s) given the decision very quickly.

“We’ll watch it back. It’s not the best to make a judgment in the heat of the moment. We feel the tension as anyone else does.”

Purrington’s dismissal allowed Tiverton to exploit extra space, with Dawson wandering into a position Purrington might well have been protecting before volleying a leveller from 18 yards.

Wood said: “That’s disappointing. They penned us back, it was very difficult to have an outlet when you go down to 10 men.

“When you look at the passage of play, it’s probably an area where Tom’s going to be.

“So, that’s difficult but I’m not going to knock the boys. They put us under a lot of pressure and it’s very easy for teams to crumble.

“The timing of the goal, 88 minutes, how often have we seen teams go on and win games in the 92nd, 93rd minute when heads drop?

“But there was quite a resolute approach. I thought we defended our box extremely well. There was constant crosses coming into the box from different angles and they held firm.

“It’s a game you could’ve quite easily lost in those closing stages. Credit to the boys for holding on for that point.”

Dorchester extended their margin over the bottom three to five points after Kings Langley lost 3-2 to Met Police.
