DORCHESTER Town assistant James Wood praised new signing Yemi Odubade for his “calmness” up front in the 1-1 draw with Tiverton Town.

Odubade, 37, switched to the Avenue Stadium after his mutual release from Salisbury.

Nigeria-born Odubade, who has four goals this season, showed his sharpness remains intact with a number of clever runs and neat hold-up play.

He was only denied a debut goal by a smart save from Tivvy keeper Lewis Williams on the stroke of half-time.

Assessing the former Eastbourne, Weymouth and Yeovil striker, Wood highlighted his influence over the Magpies.

He said: “His game time has been very limited and obviously he’s a very good player.

“He’s played for some very good clubs at a very good standard. I thought he gave us a real calmness up front.

“When the ball went into him, it stuck. He was able to get his body in the right position to get fouls when we needed to take pressure off.

“Even some of the runs he made where he didn’t necessarily receive the ball, his runs were real quality.

“We’ll work with him and we’re really pleased with the impact he’s made. He’ll be excellent for us.”

Wood added: “He’s a fit lad and looks after himself extremely well. He’ll be really good for us, he’s really experienced and has got a lot of know-how.

“If you look at some of the main characters in our changing room, Yemi’s a prime example, it’s something that Alfie (Stanley) and Olaf (Koszela) can learn from him.

“He can take a bit of pressure off those two young lads as well. The same way that Soaresy (Tom Soares) does that for us as well.

“When you’ve got people of that experience to ask questions, to watch how they train, how they conduct themselves, it’s very important for the younger lads and great for us.

“Players like that have been excellent for us, will continue to be and be very important for the rest of the season.”
