CHESTERFIELD have revealed star striker Kabongo Tshimanga will today undergo surgery on serious leg injuries sustained in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Weymouth.

Tshimanga, 24, was injured in a hard but fair tackle by Weymouth defender Haji Mnoga with 10 minutes of the game remaining.

Mnoga clearly won the ball, however the force of the challenge caused a collision with the striker.

No foul was awarded by referee Greg Rollason, with the reaction on social media from non-Chesterfield fans tending to agree with the official.

The Congolese forward was stretchered off following a seven-minute delay with what appeared a nasty leg injury.

Assistant boss Danny Webb has now confirmed the Spireites' worst fears.

He told 1866 Sport: "Most importantly, he is in good spirits. Mentally, he’s okay and he’s as positive as he can be, so that’s the main thing.

“We were all worried about his wellbeing – his family, his agent and the football club have been really supportive, which is a must.

“It was a fracture of his leg and a dislocation of the ankle, which could therefore mean ligament damage. They won’t know until they operate.

“What’s important is that we all support Kabbs and make sure that he’s ready for whenever he comes back.

"If it’s the end of the season, if it’s pre-season, we’re still going to have a hell of a player playing for us.”
