WEYMOUTH boss David Oldfield has urged his side to kick on to escape relegation, adding: “We need to get some results”.

Oldfield’s men are nine points adrift of safety with 14 Vanarama National League matches remaining.

Aldershot, managed by former Weymouth manager Mark Molesley, are in the final safe position of 19th.

Weymouth host promotion-chasing Halifax on Saturday and then face three away trips to Wealdstone, Woking and Torquay either side of a bye weekend.

Defeat to Stockport last time out followed a three-game unbeaten run which yielded draws against Chesterfield and Bromley plus a win over Eastleigh.

And Oldfield is looking to carry as much momentum as possible into the final two months of the season.

He told Echosport: “We have to take the positives, we’ve done that the whole way through.

“We’re definitely moving forward but we need to get some results, that consistency of performance that the boys are producing, and turn them into results.

“But there’s certainly lots to work on this week and lots of positivity to go forward into another very difficult game (against Halifax).”

Oldfield’s comments add to Josh McQuoid’s, the Weymouth skipper sharing his belief that safety can be realised.

He said: “I don’t think there would be any point in us playing if we didn’t think that.

“We know we’ve got to fight until the end. It’s still in our own hands, you can’t ask anything more than that.

“Definitely there’s a feeling in the changing room that we can do it. There’s been improving performances.

“The belief’s there and we’ll keep going until the end, keep working as hard as we can and try and achieve something.”
