DORCHESTER Town face a classic relegation six-pointer at Kings Langley tomorrow (3pm), manager Glenn Howes believes.

The Magpies are currently on course to go down from the Pitching In Southern League Premier South based on points per game (PPG).

Although Howes’ men are above the bottom two, they have the worst PPG record of the four third-bottom teams across Step 3.

It means Dorchester would be the ninth team to be relegated, as per FA guidelines this season.

However, the huge incentive for Dorchester this weekend is overhauling Kings Langley, who lie just one point above the Magpies in the final safe position of 19th, having played one game more.

Asked by Echosport if he felt the crunch clash was a six-pointer, Howes said: “I think people can describe it as that, given the positions the teams are in.

“I don’t think you can get away from the magnitude of the game and what’s on offer.

“They’ll be keen for the points and so will we. It’ll be an extreme test for both of us, I believe.

“Neither team had a fixture last weekend and it was unusual with the amount of games scheduled.

“It’s given us time to prepare for the game, but equally it's given Kings Langley time.

“We’ve got a quick turnaround, Farnborough on Tuesday night, so it is unusual to have nearly two weeks to prepare.

“I expect both teams to be particularly organised. Both teams will have done their homework. I think it will be a really good game as it was at our place earlier in the season.”

Dorchester beat Lango 2-0 on that occasion and Howes called for the Magpies to show “courage and belief” in Hertfordshire.

He said: “The position we’re in, the players are full of fight. I just feel that’s a pre-requisite.

“If we’re looking at it in extreme detail, we need to show courage and belief in these situations that what we’ve been doing over the past weeks is going to put us in good stead.

“That bravery needs to come out in our play and certain situations during the game. Sometimes it’s not necessarily about the football but whoever’s handling these situations better in moments.

“Whether that’ll be us or Kings Langley, I feel that will be a true pivotal part in the game.”

Tiago Sa (ankle) returned to training this week and could feature, while Ash Wells (concussion), Tom Purrington (suspension) and Josh Bertie are all available.
