THIRD generation motorcycle rider Ollie Samways has no intentions of resting on his winner’s laurels from the last season as he seeks to consolidate his position in the competitive environment of off-road motorcycle competition against more than 300 other riders.

Following in the wheel tracks of his father and grandfather the 16-year-old Dorchester student, who started competing at the age of six, was crowned 2021 champion in the Sportsman division of British Sprint Enduro series now tackles the new season with the target of retaining his title in addition to contesting the Bridgestone British Masters motocross championship.

Both disciplines require riders to tackle off-road courses over natural or simulated terrains incorporating steep inclines, hairpin turns and mud with the former seeing competitors run individually against the clock whilst motocross sees up to 40 riders do battle in an outright race.

Samways, a student at the Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester, has ambitions beyond the arduous schedule which is store during this summer to compete across Europe and then to graduate to the elite World series.

In a bid to realise his aspirations Ollie is supported by his father Rob who prepares and maintains the Gibbs Performance-tuned 125cc KTM motorcycle and faces an increased workload this season as the specification of both suspension and tyres will be different for the enduro and motocross events.

Bringing additional support and impetus to the team this season will be local driver and self-drive plant hire specialists George Crook and Sons who will be providing the specialist tyres that Samways will require for this season through their Dorchester retail tyre outlet Tyre World.

“It is a great opportunity to support and assist a determined young talent who has already achieved but also has the potential to progress to the top” says Simon Crook.

Samways’ season of enduro events started on the first weekend in April with a visit to the Fat Cat Motoparc near Doncaster.

His first motocross meeting of the year will be the following week at Hawkstone Park near Shrewsbury but on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 he will be competing much nearer to home tackling the enduro event at the Rogers Hill Raceway near Bere Regis.
