DELIGHTED Dorchester Town boss Glenn Howes was full of admiration for his team’s performance and the specific contributions of keeper Jack Bycroft and two goal Alfie Stanley in a 3-0 home win over Hendon.

He said: “It was much needed and much required. The players stepped up to it and full credit.

"The performance from the boys and how connected, they were from each unit that was the most pleasing thing.

"Don’t get me wrong, Alfie deserves every goal he receives for his performance, his attitude and his character.

"We’ve played him at different positions at times to try to get the best out of him and he delivered today. It’s a bit cheesy but there were 11 men of the match out there but he deserves his goals.”

Talking of the 28th-minute penalty save by Bycroft, Howes added: "It was hugely, hugely important. We said a few weeks ago about conceding at bad times.

"I think it was the Met Police game – the momentum and the structure just swings and it would have given Hendon a big lift, I’m sure it would have done.

"I think Jack received the player of the month award prior to kick off – again well deserved. He’s just getting bigger and bigger in (stature).

"We’re just fortunate to have him here. (Steve) Dodge (goalkeeping coach) gave him some detailed homework on previous penalty takers and he’s done his homework.

"He’s used to doing that at (parent club) Southampton. His technique and how big he made himself with his arms, his legs, spread and his timing.

"He keeps nattering in my ear about clean sheets so it was nice to receive two clean sheets in a row. Yeah it was a massive moment there was no getting away from that.”
