WEYMOUTH boss David Oldfield aired his frustration at an offside call which prevented the Terras from taking the lead against Yeovil Town in their 0-0 draw in Monday.

Oldfield’s men had already had one goal ruled out for offside, Brad Ash deemed to be beyond the last defender when he received a flick-on from Aaron Drewe’s throw.

Although Ash crossed for Ben Thomson to score a disallowed goal on that occasion, the former was involved in the offside for the second – and highly contentious – ruled-out goal.

It came after Josh McQuoid’s cross was headed on by Thomson to Tom Bearwish, who ran from a deep, onside position to head home past Yeovil goalkeeper Grant Smith before the flag was raised.

However, after reviewing footage and consultation with the match officials, Oldfield revealed Ash was not the player flagged for offside.

Asked by Echosport which Weymouth player the officials deemed to be offside, he said: “For clarity’s sake – I’m not sure!

“Bradley said it wasn’t him they said was offside. I don’t know if there was any more clarity than that.

“It happens very fast and it was a great finish from Tom, who I thought epitomised the group’s work ethic.

“We very rarely pick out individuals and I thought the whole group, the players and staff, pulled together and got an important point.”

Discussing the offside goals further, Oldfield added: “Unusually for me, I have seen the incidents back.

“The first one was a flick from a throw which possibly was offside.

“The second one, Tom was certainly onside. The issue is, is Bradley perhaps interfering or not?

“I know that the feedback during the game to Brad was that it wasn’t him that was offside, so there is some frustration there.

“But I’m absolutely not interested in any criticism of the referee, it’s a very difficult job and we trust them to get on with it.

“It is frustrating. We scored twice again and they were disallowed – we did it last week. But they’re showing signs of progression in what we’re doing.

“A little bit more quality and conviction perhaps, and we’ll get more goals.”
