DORCHESTER Town first-team coach Brian Churchill shrugged off the Magpies’ late 1-0 loss to Yate Town on Monday.

Dorchester have suffered defeats at the death against Beaconsfield, Salisbury, Hayes & Yeading, Weston, Farnborough and now twice to Yate.

Tiverton also grabbed a late equaliser in February, but Churchill is satisfied results of this type have largely been flushed from the Magpies’ system.

It comes after four wins from seven games for Dorchester, with the Yate loss ending a run of three straight wins and clean sheets.

“I think we’ve stopped that of late,” Churchill told Echosport.

“We as a management group looked at that. That was one of the main things, conceding just before half-time, conceding right near the end.

“Although that’s happened (against Yate), that’s largely due to a big change in personnel and the way the game panned out with them needing to win to have any chance of a play-off place.

“They had to go all guns blazing.”

Churchill believes the Magpies’ previous results in March and April were a greater reflection of where Glenn Howes’ men are at.

He said: “We’ve just not got to look too much at (Monday’s) result and look at that period of games.

“It bodes well for next season. It would be nice to finish the season with a positive result on Saturday.

“We should be pushing to go away and get a result at Walton in our last game, so all preparation for that will be to do that.”

With safety achieved at Salisbury on Saturday, Dorchester can now start to make moves in the player market.

Churchill added: “It’s our jobs to look at what we want, the player specifics in each position and take it from there.

“The guys have really bought into the last 10 games of how Glenn and Woodsy (James Wood, assistant) have set us up and how we want to play.

“They’re open to learning, open to being coached, which is fantastic.”
