DORCHESTER Town have confirmed the departures of four experienced players from the Avenue Stadium.

Former captain Ash Wells, ex-Crystal Palace midfielder Tom Soares, veteran striker Yemi Odubade and midfielder Charlie Gunson will all search for new clubs this summer.

In a brief post on their official website, Dorchester thanked the quartet for their services.

"We would like to thank all four players for their efforts while with the club - Ash over the last three years and Tom, Yemi and Charlie over the past season - and we wish them all the very best for the future," the statement read.

Wells was signed in the Leigh Robinson era and went on to play 44 times for the Magpies, scoring twice.

He began the 2021/22 season as captain before passing the armband over to fellow ex-Weymouth defender Callum Buckley.

Soares has enjoyed a stellar career during which he amassed over 500 league and cup appearances. He also joined Stoke for £1.71m from Palace.

Soares counts Charlton, Sheffield Wednesday, Hibernian and Bury among his former clubs and has additionally played four times for England Under-21s.

He was the marquee signing last summer for previous boss Robbie Herrera, who plucked him from the obscurity of the Yeovil & District League where he was playing for Odcombe.

Soares struggled with injuries at Dorchester but still managed 26 games, scoring once in a 2-0 win over Kings Langley.

Gunson and Odubade were signed midway through the season but still chalked up 19 and seven matches respectively - neither player scoring.

The quartet join exiting loanees Jack Bycroft and Jack Wadham, of Southampton and Bournemouth respectively, plus Torquay duo Olaf Koszela and Louie Slough, who all return to their parent clubs.
