PORTLAND TOWN 7

BOURNEMOUTH SPORTS RES 3

PORTLAND Town came back from 2-0 down in five minutes to breeze past Bournemouth Sports Reserves 7-3 at Lane End in Dorset League Division One.

It was pandemonium from the off as Callum Allison tried to pick out a teammate 50 yards away, the ball was cut out and the lethal Lucasz Szafoni fired home.

Three minutes later, Szafoni bullied his way past Charlie Rogers who went to ground and the striker pulled back to Kian Bright who easily slotted home past Chris Theakstone.

Town got their act together to some extent although the football was not freely flowing but they did cause Sports problems from dead ball situations.

It was a set-piece on 25 minutes that saw Town claw a goal back, George Christopher's enticing corner fired goalward by Will Turland and Rogers touched home from inches out.

It was a carbon copy on 34 minutes when Christopher arched a ball in and the defence, who had bundled clear on numerous occasions, this time got themselves in a mess and put through their own net under pressure for the equaliser.

Rob Townley then saw a header cleared from the line as the screw turned.

Two minutes before the break Town sneaked in front, Leon Attree releasing Turland and the impudent forward was bundled over in the box for a penalty which was converted by Townley for 3-2.

However, Town survived a late scare in the half when Szafoni grazed the bar with a speculative effort.

On 55 minutes the fourth goal came from an unlikely source as Attree sprayed it wide to Ash Owens 40 yards from goal and the full-back beat three challenges before striding into the box and sweeping a left-foot strike into the bottom corner for his first of the season.

Ross Pettitt came on for the last 25 minutes and enjoyed his 100th first-team appearance by taking the captain's armband. By then it was all Town and the fifth arrived soon after as Attree picked out Christopher to rifle home from the edge of the box.

Christopher turned supplied for 6-2 when he released Allison on the left, the left-back cutting inside and lifting over a suddenly overworked keeper for the sixth on 70 minutes.

Two minutes later it was 7-2 when Will Sonner chipped over the bedraggled Sports defence and Turland ran free to score his fourth goal in four games at the second time of asking.

Bournemouth made it a 10-goal thriller with 15 minutes to play when Town's defence switched off, allowing Ben Young to chase down a hopeful ball from deep to score.

The drama continued when Jamie McNulty received a straight red card for kicking out at a Portland player on the ground.

Town: Theakstone; Owens, Allison (Pettitt), Attree, Rogers, Townley, Christopher, Clifford (Lambert), Turland, Cherry (Paice), Harvey (Sonner).

UPWEY AND BROADWEY 1

PORTLAND TOWN 3

PORTLAND Town's victory over Bournemouth Sports Reserves followed a 3-1 derby win over Upwey & Broadwey.

Town completed the double over their local rivals Upwey with a comprehensive victory.

They should have been in front in the first minute, former Upwey forward Tom Cherry outmuscling Matt Roberts on the flank before cutting back for Turland, the normally clinical striker blazing over from 12 yards.

On eight minutes they did take the lead though, after playing for the entirety of the early stages of the game in the Upwey half they breached the rearguard when Gary Harvey found Turland in the box and this time he confidently fired past Harry Reynolds in the home goal.

Cherry was a real thorn in the Upwey defence and did find the net only for a flag to deny him by the finest of margins. Harvey then hit the bar from a corner with the help of Jack Sapsworth's head.

The second half almost got off to the most quirky of starts as Reynolds' goal-kick picked up the wind, took a wicked bounce and looked like it was going in until a hefty mitt from the previously underworked Chris Stones clawed the ball away to safety.

But with 52 minutes gone finally the second goal arrived for Town as more quick feet from Cherry mesmerised Ross Walden before setting up Townley who cracked the underside of the bar from 16 yards.

That man Turland was on hand to get the final touch in front of the Upwey defence from all of a yard.

Just five minutes later and the game was pretty much won when Cherry ran free only to be unceremoniously hauled down by Joe Walden just inside the box.

Yellow was shown to Walden and Townley notched the penalty for 3-0 after sending Reynolds the wrong way.

In the last ten minutes Upwey scored a consolation when a lofted ball found Oscar Preece and he lobbed the ball home from ten yards.
