CORFE Crusaders conquered The Veterans Hub 38-35 in a gripping South & West Dorset League Premier Division clash.

Veterans started strong in attack, while their defence worked hard to bring the ball up court. Although they were behind on the scoreboard, Corfe got lots of good interceptions.

Veterans went into quarter-time five goals ahead before bringing Emma Bright on at WA, who sparked new energy for them. Despite this, the second quarter was very close, and Veterans could only maintain their lead at half-time.

For the second half, Corfe brought Ali Holmes on at GS, who provided great, accurate shots.

There was lovely attacking play and movement from Corfe, who now trailed by just two goals heading into the final quarter.

This made for a very tight finale. After more intercepts from Corfe’s defenders Charlie Smith and Laura Pearson, they closed the gap and took the lead, pulling off a great comeback and winning by three goals.

BELLE Construction continued their imperious form with a 55-27 victory over Gungho Marketing in the Premier Division.

A fast-paced game from the start saw Belle take an early lead, thanks to decisive passing from Belle C Charlie Naerger. The shooters from both teams were shooting accurately, with Gungho’s GA Evie Hambleton-White moving well around the circle.

Belle put the pressure on and had the lead at quarter-time. This pressure from Belle continued into the second quarter, as they extended their lead. Gungho felt this and struggled to convert their opportunities into goals.

There was smooth passing up the court from Belle at the start of the second half. Gungho’s defence, however, came out strong, and intercepted passes at every opportunity.

Belle kept their cool and were soon working their way through Gungho’s pressure, thanks to excellent passing from Lou Bugler.

There was no stopping Belle in the final quarter as they continued to dominate play. Gungho kept fighting hard for each ball, but struggled to score. A dominant performance saw Belle take a convincing win over their close rivals.

FIRST Fit Windows took a convincing 47-18 win over Exe Training in Division One.

Both teams were attacking well through the court, with players creating great space for themselves and each other. First Fit’s GA Kathy Sims pulled in several rebounds, helping her team to a six-goal lead at quarter-time.

Both teams brought substitutes on, so they had fresh legs for second quarter. First Fit however started strong again and converted their opportunities into goals. The game still felt very even, with brilliant interceptions.

First Fit, however, were more patient and controlled in attack, which allowed them to pull away on the scoreboard.

Exe came out strong and fighting in the third quarter, however First Fit’s defence worked well together to prevent them from scoring. Exe still put up a great fight, despite making some errors in attack that First Fit were able to capitalise on.

Exe’s GD Beth Gorge kept them motivated in the final quarter, as First Fit had pulled away significantly but the match felt a lot closer than the final score line suggests.

JOE NEWTON ELECTRICAL 29

WJNC Wildcats closed the gap on Joe Newton Electrical to one point in the Division Two standings after taking a 37-29 win.

This clash began at a fast pace, with both teams showing strength across court, and keeping the score very close.

Joe Newton’s GS Caragh Watt shot accurately, while Wildcats C Abi Pearson showed good drive and pace in attack. Wildcats piled the defensive pressure on in the second quarter, and came up with multiple rebounds as a result.

Joe Newton also stepped up their defence, however Wildcats’ shooters used great movement to work themselves into a shooting opportunity.

An incredibly close first half set both teams up for a competitive second half.

Players from either side stepped up and demonstrated good skill and movement, as the score stayed very close. Wildcats, however, managed to pull away in the final quarter, and ultimately took the win.
