FORMER Weymouth striker Andy Dallas missed out on promotion to League Two as Grimsby Town beat Solihull Moors 2-1 after extra-time of their National League promotion final.

Dallas moved to Solihull in the summer after agreeing a move from Cambridge United.

In the previous season, he played an integral role in keeping Weymouth out of the National League's bottom three on merit, bagging 12 goals in 25 games.

While the player and Weymouth were keen to strike a deal, terms could not be reached last summer and Solihull snapped him up.

He has gone on to net 20 goals in 46 appearances, playing a huge part in Solihull's opener against Grimsby.

Dallas made a darting run into the box and did superbly well to chest the ball down, control and lay-off to Joe Sbarra.

The midfielder then crossed for 6ft 8in striker Kyle Hudlin - the tallest outfield player in England - to head home in the 45th minute.

Grimsby, who had two excellent penalty shouts waved away, equalised in the 69th minute through John McAtee to take the game into extra-time.

And it was the Mariners who held their nerve, Jordan Maguire-Drew sliding in to score the winner in the 111th minute after Dallas had inadvertently flicked on Jordan Cropper's long throw.
