PORTLAND United have added three new members to the club committee – including former assistant-manager Mark ‘Reggie’ Carter.

Carter, who won the Wessex League alongside boss Gary Bailey in 2016/17, is joined by Weymouth Precision Engineering boss Dave Wilson and Excelsior Coaches operations manager Paul Knight.

Wilson has been a long-time sponsor of the Blues and Knight has helped oversee a popular and successful partnership between Excelsior and Portland, involving transporting the islanders’ entourage to away games.

Portland have appointed the trio as part of their growth forward, Carter providing footballing nous and both Wilson and Knight lending their business expertise.

It forms the latest strategic move by chairman Matt Lucas, who is strengthening the Blues in all departments.

In a post on Portland’s official Facebook page, Lucas said: “We are absolutely delighted! Reggie is very well known in the local area and here at Portland and we are looking forward to him bringing his vast football knowledge on board.

“Dave has been associated with the club for some time and offers a wide range of business expertise.

“His company Weymouth Precision Engineering have been incredibly loyal sponsors to the club. He’s a top guy.

“Paul and Excelsior have been absolutely wonderful. We have a brilliant and unique partnership and, once again, Paul offers business knowledge and expertise. Another top man.”

Portland’s latest off-field strengthening comes after the Blues have signed 14 players ahead of pre-season.

Goalkeepers Mike Edgar and Brad Smith, midfielders Ryan McKechnie, Matt Harvey, Marcus Smith, Hayden Scott and Ben Morris, defenders Harry Thomas, Alfie Toland and George Stuttle plus strikers Troy Walbridge, Joel Hewitt, Liam Sayers and Greg Borthwick have all committed.
