DORCHESTER Town have signed promising striker Shaquille Gwengwe from AFC Totton on a one-year contract, subject to FA approval.

Glenn Howes' Magpies are understood to have beaten a number of clubs to the 21-year-old's signature.

In 2018/19, former Worthing forward Gwengwe netted 24 goals in 35 games at Step 5 for Andover Town, earning him a move to Blackfield & Langley where he first worked with Howes.

At AFC Totton last season he then bagged seven goals in 28 appearances.

Dorchester assistant boss James Wood said: “We're delighted to announce the signing of Shaq.

"He's an exciting forward player who first played for Glenn at Blackfield & Langley in the Southern Premier League, and whilst there he caught the eye of Brentford and had an extended trial with the professional club.

"Shaq is a young, hungry player who fits our profile superbly and a player we hope to develop further to reach his undoubted potential."

The highly-rated forward becomes the Magpies' sixth new signing of the summer after Keith Emmerson, Kieran Douglas, Olly Balmer, Ollie Griggs and Michael Lilley.

Gwengwe is the tenth player to sign terms for next season, with Callum Buckley, Tiago Sa, Harvey-Joe Bertrand and Alfie Stanley committing for another campaign.

He also provides competition up front for Stanley and Balmer.
