WING wizard Matty Burrows will be training with the Terras’ first team in pre-season, according to boss David Oldfield.

Under-23s star Burrows has impressed in recent seasons, bursting on to the scene with a number of impressive displays for Balti Sports in the Dorset Premier League.

Last summer, he then earned a deal with Wessex Premier side Portland United after scoring against the Blues in a 3-2 pre-season friendly loss.

Burrows was also an unused substitute for Terras in their 1-0 FA Trophy win at Hungerford last season.

And Oldfield confirmed the precocious wide man will be given a chance to impress this summer.

The former Manchester City midfielder told Echosport: “He trained with us towards the end of last season and did well.

“He had a few sessions and I know he trained with the club a little bit before I got there, but I hadn’t seen much of him since I’ve been at the club.

“He’ll certainly be invited down for pre-season and he’s one that we want to show a pathway down to the 23s with – we don’t want it to be lip service, very much part of the club.

“In terms of those young players we want to get them involved and hopefully be a strong part of the club going forwards.”

Commenting on Burrows, Portland boss Franklyn Clarke expects the winger to link up with his team at some stage this season in what would likely be a loan or dual terms deal.

He said: “Matty will sign but his plans are to do pre-season with Weymouth at the moment.

“We’re confident Matty will be with us, it all depends on how he gets on there in pre-season. I wish the lad the best of luck and if he ends up getting a deal at Weymouth then even better.

“It’s a win-win in my eyes, really.”
