DORCHESTER Sports have announced the signings of Hamworthy United duo Jamie Beasley and Jack Delves ahead of the 2022/23 Dorset Premier League season.

Beasley re-joins the club from the Wessex League champions, while promising midfielder Delves comes across from Hamworthy’s reserve team.

Beasley and Delves sign after the losses of Charlie Gosney and Jamie Quinton, who are dropping down the leagues to join Puddletown and Maiden Newton & Cattistock respectively.

Sports are also in the market for a midfielder and centre-back to offset the losses of Billy Brumble to a scheduled knee operation and Louis Hankin to the RAF.

However, boss Ashley James revealed all other players from the side that finished third in the table last season will remain with Sports, who missed out on promotion to Step 6 in May.

Speaking to Echosport, James explained the captures of Beasley and Delves.

He said: “We’ll be looking to bring in four players, we’ve already brought in two, so we have space for two more and we’ll be looking at them in pre-season.

“Jack has come in from Hamworthy United Reserves. He’s a very good player that we’ve been watching for a couple of seasons.

“He can play in a variety of positions, left midfield, left-back and central midfield. He’s very versatile, so we’re really happy he’s come in.

“Then, Jamie’s signed from Hamworthy first team. He’s a top, top player who’s been playing Wessex Prem for the last few seasons, so we’re delighted to have him on board.

“He can’t wait to link up with his old teammates from Portland. That’s the big one.

“It’s always got to fit with your personal lives. You’ve got to respect everyone’s decisions. We’re lucky he’s chosen us this season and we can’t wait for him to join.

“He’s told us he can’t wait to get started. I think he’ll be a top signing for us and a direct replacement for Charlie and Jamie.”

On his search for two more new players, James added: “We’ve got people coming to training but we don’t want to make a decision until we’ve had a look.

“We start Monday and Wednesday next week and then we’ll make a decision. We play Balti in our first friendly on Tuesday the 12th.

“By then we’ll have the squad pretty much complete.”

Explaining the exits of Gosney and Quinton, James said: “Charlie’s going to play with his mates at Puddletown in Division One.

“It’s disappointing to lose him but at the end of it, you’ve got to enjoy your football. If he thinks he’s going to enjoy it there more, that’s his call.

“He’s a very good player but maybe he didn’t want to play so high, take it so seriously. We didn’t want him to leave, so that’s his call.

“Jamie Quinton’s going to play for Maiden Newton in (Division Two). He’s another player who was brilliant for us last season.

“To lose both of them, it’s disappointing but it’s their call and you’ve got to respect that.”
