WEYMOUTH midfielder Omar Mussa is close to securing an exit from the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Mussa is under contract for the 2022/23 season and his exit would command a fee.

Echosport understands National League side Dagenham were interested in his services during the January transfer window.

The ex-Walsall maestro announced his departure on social media but later deleted a post which thanked the club and fans during his 12-month stay.

He is understood to have found a potential destination, although a deal to seal his move away is not yet concluded.

It comes after Mussa was pictured training with Weymouth this week.

Mussa, 21, played 37 times for the Terras after leaving Dover, scoring once and providing four assists.

His solitary goal was a match-winner, helping to defeat King's Lynn Town 1-0 in October.

Previous manager Brian Stock said he had not “seen a player with his amount of ability” after signing the ex-Belgium Under-18 star.

While Mussa often dazzled the home faithful with his skills on the ball and ability to wriggle out of tight spots in midfield, he would be guilty of giving possession away cheaply - a factor that often led to his substitution by Stock.

Mussa would be the 13th player to exit Weymouth this summer, joining Brandon Goodship, Ben Thomson, Andreas Robinson, new Aldershot trio Josh McQuoid, Tyler Cordner and Ollie Harfield, plus Ross Fitzsimons, Martell Taylor-Crossdale, Josh Leslie-Smith, Taofiq Olomowewe, Ben Morgan and Jordan Greenidge.
