BELLE Construction secured the South & West Dorset League Premier Division title for the summer season with a resounding 69-26 win over Buglers.

Throughout the match they demonstrated their ability to move the ball swiftly through the court and for their shooters, Jaimee Browne and Laura Bucke to convert attacking passages of play into goals.

Key interceptions from WA Lou Bugler and GD Jayne Guppy were quickly converted and at half-time Belle were leading 33-13.

Buglers worked hard to create their own opportunities for turnover ball in the second half with C Niamh Randall securing a flying interception.

However, Belle continued to apply pressure throughout court, limiting forward passing options available to Buglers and maintaining a high intensity to their play resulting in a convincing win, sealing the title in style.

CORFE CRUSADERS 46

COASTAL CHEESE 30

CORFE Crusaders claimed a comfortable 46-30 win over Coastal Cheese in the Premier Division.

The match started with strong attack from both teams, but with Corfe WA Rhiannon Carter and C Sammy Whisker bringing the ball swiftly through court and securing quality passes to their shooters it was Corfe who led 13-5 at the first quarter break.

Into the second quarter, Coastal WA Flo Clever put some great feeds into their shooters but Corfe’s defence were applying strong pressure resulting in the ball being turned over and the lead being extended to 24-12 at half-time.

Coastal started well in the third quarter with good passing through court. An injury to Corfe’s WA Jess Cutler led to tactical changes but this did not disrupt the play.

As the match progressed the intensity from both sides remained high with excellent shooting from Coastal’s GS Lauren Oates and Corfe’s GS Donna Fuller. Corfe extended their lead in the final quarter to win 46-30.

TEAM WAIKIKI 52

PORTLAND PIRATES 32

TEAM Waikiki won the battle of second versus third in Division One, beating Portland Pirates 52-32.

Waikiki started well with their first centre pass being moved swiftly to the shooting circle.

They were also applying pressure at their defensive end with WD Becca Drake making excellent interceptions.

For Portland, GS Candice Barton was effective in creating space and shooting opportunities.

However, the Waikiki WA Emily Peacock was putting great passes into GS Hayley Rooks and her fabulous shooting, despite close attention from Portland’s GK Jane Bayley and GD Vikki Cosgrove, gave them a 26-16 lead at half-time.

The third quarter saw Portland GA Donna Fuller working hard to gain rebounds and keep possession for her team. Waikiki kept up their defensive pressure and sharp passing through court, but could only extend the lead marginally at three quarter time, 36-25.

In the final quarter, Waikiki demonstrated some exceptional shooting and while Portland continued to work hard and challenge for ball it was Waikiki that were able to take control and extend their leading to win 52-32.

JOE NEWTON 41

WJNC WILDCATS 38

JOE Newton Electrical closed the gap on second-placed WJNC Wildcats with a 41-38 win over their rivals in Division Two.

Wildcats started strongly with some good shooting from GS Maraia Ratulailai but Joe Newton’s GS Camilla Assirati and GA Caragh Watts were also on form in a well-contested match.

Joe Newton had the edge at the end of the first quarter with a 12-11 lead, which they extended to 23-20 at half-time.

In the third quarter, Wildcats defence applied pressure on the Joe Newton attack which enabled the team to close the gap to just one goal at three-quarter time.

Through the fourth quarter both teams worked extremely hard, contesting for ball throughout the court and keeping the score evenly matched throughout. The final few passages of play resulted in goals for Joe Newton who secured the win 41-38.
