WEYMOUTH chalked up double figures against a spirited Bridport side, winning 10-0 in their second pre-season friendly of the summer.

Bridport never gave up despite facing opponents four divisions above them but the quality of the Terras shone through as sub Tom Bearwish grabbed a hat-trick.

Weymouth, as expected, began brightly as the number six trialist – wearer of the number 14 shirt on Saturday at Portland, chipped through for the number seven trialist who boomed a shot over.

Brad Ash flicked a header wide when unmarked from a corner and later scooped over after a raking ball from Harry Kyprianou found the number ten trialist.

But the deadlock was broken in the 13th minute when Bridport keeper Callum Smalley’s poor kick went straight to the number ten and he squared for Ash to find the empty net for 1-0.

Ash made it 2-0 in the 20th minute, the trialist number six running onto a ball over the top on the left and crossing low for the striker, who was superbly denied by Smalley before burying his parry.

Ash and Kyprianou headed well wide before the first hint of a move from Bridport came when Sol Ayunga bought space with a clever stepover and played in Harley Brook, who was shielded away by the trialist number two.

Weymouth were forced into a change as their trialist number seven sustained a leg injury and was replaced by Frankie Monk, seconds after the Terras went 3-0 up.

New signing Nathan Carlyle collected a deflected free-kick and slid a pass across for the trialist number 11 to score from two yards.

Smalley then picked up a knock and was replaced by Kian Wootton, and his opposite number endured a shaky moment when Bridport won a corner and he flapped at Adam Steele’s delivery.

Weymouth did manage two more goals deep in the half, going 4-0 up when trialist number six scored via a wicked deflection that deceived Wootton and the trialist number eight then robbing Dan Baggs of possession and clinically scoring.

In between those efforts, Josh Hunter tried an ambitious shot from 50 yards that sailed over, in what could be classed as Bridport’s first effort in anger.

Weymouth made eight changes at the break and took only 35 seconds to make it 6-0 as Bearwish fired through the grasp of Wootton.

Sub Tom Blair nearly made it seven on 49 minutes, only for his mazy dribble to go unrewarded, before Bearwish had a goal disallowed for offside.

Bridport won another corner through Callum Arnold, although Blair had little trouble in heading clear, and the forward then went upfield and dragged a good chance wide.

Luke Nippard curled wide before setting up Bearwish’s second on the hour, the striker controlling with his chest and volleying home.

It was all Weymouth at this stage and sub Cam Murray shanked a good chance before Arnold did superbly well to hook clear on the goalline.

Bearwish did grab his hat-trick 13 minutes from time, his strike again proving too hot for Wootton to handle.

Seconds later it was nearly 9-0, Bearwish closing Wootton down only to see the ricochet bounce wide of the post.

Sub Owen Peart sliced a difficult volleyed chance wide but there was still time for the number 12 trialist to bag two late tap-ins as Weymouth notched double figures.
