PORTLAND UNITED 1

Lowes 51

DORCHESTER TOWN 2

Stanley 77, Balmer 89

DORCHESTER Town needed two late goals to see off a brave Portland United in their pre-season friendly at the Camp & Satherley Stadium.

Two divisions separate the sides but Portland once again showed their battling qualities having restricted National League South neighbours Weymouth to a 2-1 victory on Saturday.

Portland were 2-0 down after four minutes of that game and nearly conceded an early goal against the Magpies, keeper Mike Edgar making a good save against his former club in the third minute.

Former Dorchester duo Franklyn Clarke and Josh Williams fired off-target from distance for Portland before Shaq Gwengwe ensured Edgar had another save to make.

Liam Sayers worked Magpies’ keeper Brad Snelling and Dorchester were forced into clearing off the line before Gwengwe shot wide and Alfie Stanley worked Edgar.

After an entertaining half, the game conjured its first goal when ex-Magpie Sayers rounded Snelling and squared for Oli Lowes to score against his former club in the 51st minute.

Dorchester responded with chances for Tiago Sa, Gwengwe and sub Olly Balmer, while Louie Slough headed at Edgar as the Magpies threw everything at their opponents.

And they duly got their first goal in 257 minutes of pre-season football when Stanley looped a header over Edgar from Balmer’s cross.

Balmer nodded wide a good opportunity for 2-1 but made amends in the 89th minute by rounding sub keeper Brad Smith to score.

Dorchester host Wimborne on Saturday (3pm), while Portland entertain Balti Sports (2pm).
