Seaside town tradition was the order of the day with an ice-cream on the prom and a dip in Weymouth Bay on the agenda, along with a little education on marine life by examining rock pools at the Lodmoor Country Park attraction.

The club has recently acquired several new signings this year, some of whom had never been to the town before.

The day, which also saw fans meeting players, gave the squad the chance to mingle with the community before Weymouth's friendly match against Dorchester on July 30.

Weymouth FC manager David Oldfield said: "We have lots of new players including some who have literally never been to Weymouth before, so this is a good opportunity to show them the town and for us to get together and connect with the town on this beautiful day.

"This is an opportunity for the team to understand how important the club is to the community, but crucially how important the community is to the club, and we really want to pay attention to that."

Claudio Ofosu, a new signing from Peterborough, had never been to Weymouth before joining the club.

He said: "I am really excited to come to Weymouth. We are going to be playing here so it is important to get to know the people from the area.

"It is really important to give fans the opportunity to see us off the pitch as part of the community so they get to know you on a personal level.

Striker Brad Ash, who hails from London and has re-signed for the Terras this year, said the day had a 'great feel' to it.

He added: "This has been good bonding for the team, and a good opportunity to interact with the community and meet the people of Weymouth.

"Everyone, especially those from London, loves the beach. Weymouth has a great feel, which is why it attracts so many players.

Sea Life manager Tamsin Mutton-Mcknight said: "Weymouth is rightly proud to have a football team. It is great to see the team here today, to introduce them to one of the iconic visitor attractions in Weymouth and to our amazing coastline and help them get to grips with the local area."
