TERRAS have signed former Bournemouth youngster Keelan O’Connell from National League Torquay United.

O’Connell made 28 league appearances in his one and only season with the Gulls, joining Gary Johnson’s fifth-tier side following his release from Cherries last summer.

Capable of playing on either flank, O’Connell’s former manager Johnson confirmed the decision for the 22-year-old to depart Plainmoor was a mutual one, with a view of more game time for O’Connell.

By dropping down a division, O’Connell also moves back to Dorset, closer to his family.

Speaking to Torquay’s website, Johnson shared: “Keelan O’Connell has agreed to join Weymouth on a permanent deal.

“We appreciate his time that he had here at Torquay, but both myself and Keelan agreed that he needed to play regular every week to develop his game.”

Weymouth boss David Oldfield enthused about his latest signing, stating on Weymouth’s website: “We are looking to rebuild the playing group with good players and good people.

“We feel we have managed to do that with Keelan.

“He is another player full of potential and ability that has an opportunity to contribute to our aims in having a hard working and hungry group.

“We know the level we have to reach this season and Keelan will prove to be an important factor in our club moving forwards.

“We very much look forward to working with him.”
