DORCHESTER Town assistant James Wood expects a “difficult game” and a “good occasion” when the Magpies visit Weymouth tomorrow (3pm).

Glenn Howes’ men embark on their final pre-season friendly as part of the Dorset Fans Festival, the first community-based event of its kind between the rival clubs.

Dorchester earned an impressive 0-0 draw with Yeovil on Tuesday but Wood served a note of caution with Weymouth’s last result – a 5-1 win over Dorchester’s divisional counterparts Weston.

He told Echosport: “It should be a good occasion against quality opposition. We know Weymouth have had by their standards a few struggles in pre-season.

“They’re now putting together a very good squad, as shown by their result against Weston and we know Weston are a very good side.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game but a good occasion and really big for the county, we’re really looking forward to it.

“Even though they’re young boys, a lot of them have to realise they’re good players.

“It’s important we’re a threat with the ball, which I thought at times we were (against Yeovil).”

Wood admitted Dorchester would prefer an extra seven days of pre-season as the management’s philosophy begins to click among the Magpies’ squad.

“In an ideal world we would’ve liked another week,” he said. “Things are just starting to come together.

“(Tuesday) was one of the first pre-season games where we’ve looked like the side we want to become.

“Hard-working, very good out of possession and a threat going forward. So, taking those points into the Weymouth game will be very important.”

Keith Emmerson is unavailable but Tiago Sa, Mike Little and Charlie Gunson could feature.
