MARK Palmer has broken his silence after resigning from Weymouth’s board.

Ex-director Palmer stepped away along with former chairman Ian White after the Terras were this week forced to raise funds to ease financial stress and stabilise the club.

Paul Maitland has since been named acting CEO, with Simon Etherington caring for club finances. Neither man will stand on the Weymouth board.

In a brief statement, Palmer told Echosport: “I’d like to thank the fans and I’ve enjoyed my time at the club.

“My journey on the board has come to an end but I still hope to help out at the club. I’m looking forward to a new restructure.”

Whether that “hope” becomes reality is unclear, with some insiders in the club’s new era wishing to draw a line under Palmer’s involvement.

However, the businessman has been influential in securing and extending several of the club’s existing sponsorship deals.

Palmer, who was previously with Wycombe, Yeovil and Grimsby, went into co-ownership of Gibraltarian side St Joseph’s earlier this summer, partnering with ex-Burnley chief Mike Garlick.
