DORCHESTER Town turned in a storming second-half display to sink Plymouth Parkway 3-1 for their second victory in three Pitching In Southern League Premier South games.

The Magpies trailed at the break through Jared Lewington’s header but were transformed after half-time as Kieran Douglas, Callum Buckley and Shaq Gwengwe all netted their first goals for the Magpies.

Dorchester were roared on by a noisy home support that bought into the Magpies’ effort and the players responded by thriving off the home crowd’s energy.

It proved the perfect response to Saturday’s 4-0 loss at Truro, from which manager Glenn Howes opted for six changes.

In came Tiago Sa, Keith Emmerson, Alex Moyse, Olaf Koszela, Ollie Balmer and new signing Harry Lee, the 17-year-old keeper signed from Exeter for a third one-month loan spell.

Louie Slough, Jordi Foot, Matt Neale, Gwengwe and Ollie Griggs dropped to the bench, while keeper Brad Snelling must follow the 21-day concussion protocol after a collision during the Truro game.

In a busy start to the match, Balmer tested away keeper Kyle Moore with a cross, prompting a drop and gather at the second attempt.

Parkway threatened at the other end as Ryan Lang crashed a shot into the side netting after appeals for handball against Keith Emmerson fell on deaf ears.

Play was then broken by an arm injury to Ben Seymour, one of three ex-Magpies in the Parkway ranks along with Callum Rose and Tom Bath.

It took until the 32nd minute for the game’s first shot on target and it came courtesy of the hosts.

Balmer drew a trip from Dan Rooney after smart work on the left by Tiago Sa and Olaf Koszela, who blasted the free-kick at the wall and skewed the rebound.

Buckley picked up the loose ball and found Alfie Stanley, whose ball to the overlapping Harvey-Joe Bertrand created a crossing chance.

Although the delivery was just in front of Koszela, Sa steamed in at the back post and was unlucky to see his effort cleared off the line.

Parkway had possessed their own threat up front, though, and went ahead in the 38th minute when Lewington rose highest to nod home a corner.

Dorchester emerged for the second half a completely different team, however, Stanley desperately unlucky to see his curler hit the post and roll across the goalline.

But just 11 minutes had elapsed before Douglas powered a header home from Balmer’s corner to ignite the Avenue faithful.

The quality of Balmer’s deliveries was causing Parkway all sorts of trouble and the forward next supplied Buckley who flicked a header onto the bar on the hour.

With the crowd fervently behind them, Douglas and Buckley then combined for the latter to nod wide at the back post.

Howes reached for a double change to keep up the pressure on Parkway, Gwengwe and Griggs coming on for Stanley and Jordan Ngalo.

Two minutes later, Dorchester completed the turnaround as Buckley grabbed his maiden Magpies goal – just shy of 50 appearances for the club.

Gwengwe burst through on goal and was denied by a fine recovery tackle from Austin Booth for a corner, allowing Balmer’s wand of a left foot to trouble Moore.

The keeper unsuccessfully punched clear twice, his second effort landing at the feet of Buckley, who volleyed a cultured right-footed finish through a crowd of bodies for 2-1.

Arguably the pick of the bunch came on 80 minutes when Koszela showed expert vision and execution to loft a pass into Gwengwe’s path on the break.

The forward chested down and burst clear with his pace before slotting a clinical finish past the stranded Moore to open his Dorchester account.

Gwengwe was booked for removing his shirt and diving into a jubilant ‘Bypass End’ but the Magpies cared little as they hunted for more goals.

Their fourth nearly came when Koszela fizzed a shot inches wide of the far post following a clever pass from Gwengwe.

In response, Parkway sub Callum Hall forced a smart save from Lee, who had commanded his area well, but their quest to halve the deficit left gaps for Dorchester to exploit.

Dorchester are well suited to the counter and would have deservedly grabbed a fourth goal had Balmer’s shot not been deflected wide.

However, the Magpies were good value for their second straight home league win.

The run is their best since the 2015/16 season when Dorchester went unbeaten in their first seven home league matches, claiming 13 points in the process.
