BOSS David Oldfield admitted Weymouth “can’t quite get it right” after another painful Vanarama National League South loss.

The Terras lost 3-0 as Worthing exacted Weymouth’s third consecutive home defeat – conceding three in each loss.

However, the picture was not as simple as that.

Weymouth missed a catalogue of chances in a dominant first half, notably Keelan O’Connell wasting a one-on-one and then hitting the post in 60 seconds.

Joel Colbran punished a needless Tom Blair foul by putting Worthing 1-0 up and the visitors ended up trebling their lead through Ollie Pearce’s second-half brace.

And Oldfield cut a frustrated figure at full-time, listing once more a lack of execution in both boxes.

Speaking to the club’s media team, he said: “We did many good things, had lots of opportunities and you don’t take them.

“The reality of the game is such that you can get punished from that. There are crucial moments when we have opportunities after a strong performance and we don’t take them.

“We concede a crucial first goal. That’s the be all and end all.

“We didn’t quite do enough and crucially we concede that goal, that is a work in progress without a doubt.

“It’s frustration because we pay attention to it, we work on it and we can’t quite get it right – but we will and we’ll persevere on it.

“Overall, I’m proud of the players. The second and third goal I’m not even thinking in my mind.

“It is the willingness the boys showed and tried to implement what we do, but a lack of a little bit of composure and quality on the transition.”

On a season-high attendance of 889, amid the club’s financial troubles, Oldfield said: “The crowd were fantastic.

“It’s a funny feeling praising the crowd so often when we have blatantly failed to win enough football matches.

“Certainly over the period of time before I came here and without doubt since I came.

“The consistency of the crowd, even though we’ve had changes at the club in the last ten days, the commitment the crowd show to Weymouth Football Club is outstanding.

“We need to thank them for that.”
