BERE REGIS 133 (3pts) lost to POOLE TOWN 134-2 (20pts) by eight wickets

BERE Regis were comprehensively beaten by Dorset Premier League leaders Poole Town, suffering an eight-wicket loss at Bere Regis Rec.

Bere won the toss and chose to bat, only to find themselves 49-5 as Badrul Alam (3-16) and Joe Wilson (2-20) tore through the top order.

Rich Payne (31) and Rich Cole (29no) gave Bere much-needed impetus after Pete Russell (35) offered a return catch to Wilson, but the duo could not rescue the innings completely.

Poole’s strength in-depth told as Joey Wormington (2-21) and Dan Jackson (2-50) decimated the tail to bowl Bere out for 133.

Although Matt King (1-27) struck early by bowling Jamie Bennett, Poole’s classy batters put on 98 for the second wicket.

Alam (53no) and Lewis Marais (56) broke the back of the chase, although off-spinner Sam Goodhew (1-23) bowled superbly to castle the latter.

However, Alam was able to see Poole home alongside Richard Armstrong (16no) as Poole completed a fuss-free chase to maintain their title ambitions.

Speaking to Echosport, Bere captain Brian Keegan said: “Basically, Poole bowled and fielded extremely well.

“We were beaten by the better side on the day. They did what was necessary, they manoeuvred the ball around the field. You can see why they’re top of the league.”

Bere Regis Seconds lost to Kingston Lacy by five wickets.
