DAVID Oldfield has instructed Weymouth to build on “good signs” ahead of their Vanarama National League South clash at home to Hemel Hempstead tomorrow (3pm).

The Terras drew 1-1 at Hungerford Town on Monday and, while their haul of one point in six games is the club’s worst start in its history, it did stop a rot of five successive losses.

Both Weymouth and Hemel have struggled, with the Terras bottom and the Tudors in 22nd.

Despite this, Weymouth dominated for large spells against Hungerford, as they have so often this season, and Oldfield is looking for his side to continue the upward trend.

He told Echosport: “As always, another very difficult challenge. (Hemel) have more points than we have but we know how big the challenge is ahead of us.

“We need to make sure that we’re ready. I feel we showed some good signs in the last game, but we’ve shown good signs in all of the matches.

“We need to give ourselves a chance throughout the game to get a result, that’s where our focus will be.”

Asked whether Weymouth’s first win could uncork the potential in his side, Oldfield said: “There is enough within the group to do much better.

“There is potential there that isn’t realised quite. In terms of getting a result to drive us forward, it’s a case of one game at a time.”

Weymouth are looking to make a potential signing, although the Terras face a race against time to complete the deal.
