DORCHESTER Town first-team coach Brian Churchill feels the Magpies were the “dominant side” in their FA Cup first qualifying round 0-0 draw at Wimborne Town.

Both sides hit the post in the tie but Dorchester created a catalogue of chances in the first half without taking one, also seeing a credible penalty shout turned away.

Wimborne saw their own calls for a penalty dismissed before Keith Emmerson missed a golden chance six yards out for the visitors, who were lucky to survive in the 82nd minute when ex-Magpie Jack Hoey somehow missed on the follow-up after Harry Lee had superbly denied his initial header.

The sides were forced to settle for a replay at the Avenue Stadium tomorrow (7.45pm) with £2,250 and a place in the next round on offer to the winners.

Churchill told Echosport: “I’m glad the neutral enjoyed it because it wasn’t very nice watching from the sidelines.

“It was a typical local derby, full of feist, full of fire, full of aggression that ultimately ended 0-0 and I’m not sure both teams know how that happened.

“First half we were on the front foot and played the majority of the half on the front foot, with numerous chances. We counted seven.

“We’ve hit the post, had one cleared off the line, calls for a penalty. Second half we had moments but it was a more even affair.”

Dorchester’s penalty claim looked strong, with Shaq Gwengwe struck in the head by goalkeeper Thomas Parker-Trott’s flailing glove, some distance from the ball.

“We were all screaming for a penalty and couldn’t understand why it wasn’t given,” Churchill said.

“The players didn’t make too much of it but for us, he’s made no contact with the ball and made contact with the player’s head.

“He’s gone down and anywhere else on the pitch it’s a foul. Because it’s in the area it should’ve been a penalty.”

Churchill also spoke of a nervy finale in which Wimborne nearly punished Dorchester for their profligacy.

He said: “That’s always the danger, when you’re the more dominant side over the 90 minutes.

“At times, they’re always going to have a moment and I’m glad Jack fluffed his lines. He could’ve won it for them.

“It’s all set up for a nice replay back at our place.”
